Using the Certificate Request Tool


Signing into The IPLA Portal


Prerequisites for first time users
Access to the IPLA Licensing Portal including, the Certificate Request Tool and Royalty
Reporting Tool requires you to be an existing licensee. If you are a first time user, please
the following directions:

 

 

1. Navigate to IPLA Licensing Portal Sign In Page and click Sign In.

2. First time users will need to create an account. Click on the ‘Sign up now’ button to
create a new Microsoft Azure B2C account. This account will be specific to the licensee
portal and not impact any other uses of Microsoft Azure.

 

3. Enter your own work (or company domain) email address. This email address should be
the one registered with ipla@microsoft.com Click on the ‘Send verification
code’ button to validate your access to your corporate email address.

4. Enter the code that is sent to your email address. Then create a password. (Password
resets are easy to do and are sent to your work email address)

Trouble with Azure B2C Account Creation? If you cannot create an Azure B2C account, it means that
ipla@microsoft.com does not have your work email address or company
domain registered in the licensee database. Email ipla@microsoft.com and provide your full name,
work email address and company name.

 

5. Log into the Microsoft Licensing Portal! You should be able to log into the portal now.

 

Navigating the IPLA Licensing Portal
A Technical Contact is not required to request a new certificate. However, certificates will only be
delivered to the Technical Contact listed on your agreement.

  •  The License Agreement Technical Contact (also known as the “SHIP TO”) is the only
    contact granted access to the deliverables associated with the agreement.

  • The email address for the Technical Contact
    o Must be a person on your company’s domain
    o Cannot be a distribution group, security group, or shared email address.


1. After you successfully sign in, you will be directed to the IPLA Licensing Portal Home
page.
2. Click on the Deliverables tab from the top menu bar.
3. Below Actions click Request Certificate, to open the Certificate Request tool.

Submitting a New Certificate Request
1. Select “Request New Cert” under the appropriate license agreement.

2. Complete all fields applicable to your certificate type.

3. Once you have completed the required information, submit your request. You will be
directed to the confirmation page.
4. Click “OK” to complete and return to the Deliverables home page.
5. After the certificate has been generated, the Technical Contact will receive an email from
Microsoft IP Licensing Administration stating that the certificate is available for
download.

 

Verifying the Status of a Certificate Request
The standard turnaround for certificate requests is ten (10) business days. Please plan
accordingly based on this standard SLA. You can check the progress of your request by
expanding the history under the certificate type.

  • Expired = The previously released certificate is now expired.
  • Pending =Your certificate request was received.
  • Approved = Your certificate request is submitted to our Certificate Generation Team for
    processing.
  • Posted = Your certificate has been generated and is available to download via
    SpecServer.

 

Re-releasing Deliverables
The Deliverables provided to you are considered Confidential Information under the terms of
your license agreement with Microsoft. Take every measure to safeguard this information.

  • Company shall establish procedures for safeguarding certificates.
  • Company shall limit access to those employees, independent contractors and/or
    Authorized Contractors working on PlayReady Final and Intermediate products.
  • Company shall handle and treat Device Keys for all PlayReady Final and Intermediate
    Products in a manner that meets the requirements specified in the Compliance Rules.
  • Company shall secure the Device Keys on PlayReady Final Products in a manner that
    meets the requirements specified in the Robustness Rules.

 

IPLA will not re-release previously delivered assets to your company. We recommend
Deliverables be downloaded to a secure, central location that is accessible by authorized
individuals with proper knowledge and documentation available for the License Agreements and
all Compliance and Robustness Rules.


PlayReady Deployment Certificates are effective for the life of the agreement they are requested
under and the Expiration Date will correspond with Expiration Date of the agreement.
Certificates are specific to each agreement and should only be used per the terms of that
agreement.

 

Certificate Request Tool FAQ


When should I use the Certificate Request Tool?
The Certificate Request Tool should be used to submit PlayReady Deployment, Domain,
Metering, Device (SL2000 and SL3000) and Mediaroom Certificate requests as well as Library
requests for the PlayReady Client SDK for iOS.


What fields must be completed in the Certificate Request Tool?
All fields are required to be completed fully and accurately.

 

How do I generate my public/private key pair?
Use the command-line tool generatekeypair.exe to create an ECC public and private key pair. You
should run the tool with the following parameters shown below and the tool will generate a
keypair.xml file which contains the public and private key.
generatekeypair.exe -x:keypair.xml -p:ECC256

 

How do I submit a request for a certificate not listed in the tool?
Use the existing processes outlined in your agreement or PlayReady Documentation. If you have
additional questions, email ipla@microsoft.com.


Why was my certificate request rejected?
Certificate requests are subject to the terms of the license agreement and may be rejected or
delayed if your company has any outstanding invoices or royalty reports, or if the request is a
duplicate request for a certificate that has already been delivered.

 

Why am I unable to submit a certificate request?
Review the data you are entering for accuracy. If you are a PlayReady licensee, review your
PlayReady Document Pack for instructions describing how to generate and submit your
certificate request. You may also email ipla@microsoft.com for assistance.


How do I use a different Windows Live ID than the one I initially used to
access the site?
Email ipla@microsoft.com with your name, email address, and company name and request a
reset of your Windows Live ID association.


Why don’t I see my agreement and corresponding certificate listed?
If you have confirmation that your license agreement is active and was countersigned by
Microsoft and you still do not see the certificate listed, email ipla@microsoft.com for
assistance.


How do I update the technical contact on my license agreement?
To change or update your official license agreement contacts Log on to the IP Licensing Portal
Home page. Under Actions select the Request Contact Change link. The email address for the
Technical Contact, must be a person on your company’s domain. It cannot be a distribution
group, security group, or shared email address. The Deliverables provided to you are considered
Confidential Information under the terms of your license agreement with Microsoft. Please take
appropriate measures to safeguard information.
